HIV-Status

3. Must I tell my dentist or doctor that I’m HIV positive?

Yes, you should. The only way that healthcare providers can provide the best care for you is to let them know all about your health matters, whether it includes HIV or not. If a doctor does not know one’s HIV status, he or she may prescribe some medications that may have potential hazardous effects on the patient.

You are also encouraged to find out from your doctor or local organizations with regards to the dentists or doctors that are friendly and well versed with HIV/AIDS issues for your dental and medical care.
